What if you could be happy now,
before you get what you want?

A client recently said to me, “I’ll be so happy when I finally lose that last five pounds…” and a workshop participant said “I’m going to be so happy when I finally finish my website…” But there was no reason for either of them to wait to be happy or feel better.  We all have the power to decide to be happy right now.  I’m not saying it’s what we were taught or that we don’t have the habit of being cranky or depressed based on what our day looks like, but we have the power to do something about our mood.

Why would you wait even one
more minute to be happy
or feel better?

We can still look forward to fun events, satisfaction from planned accomplishments or arriving at particular emotional destinations.  But we could also feel really good in this moment if we choose to.

I always ask my workshop participants, what are the “yes, buts” to being happy right now instead of “waiting until” something changes?

(1) Yes, but, I really don’t have what I want so I can’t be happy yet.

If our happiness depends on having what we want, we become too dependent on outside circumstances and how the world works.  What if we could decide to be happy anyway, wouldn’t that feel good?

(2) It’s phony to manufacture happiness when you’re not genuinely happy.

I’m not suggesting manufacturing anything.  I’m suggesting focusing on what would truly make you happy right now.  Make it real, based on what’s going on in your life today.  Then the feelings are genuine.

(3) Yes, but, what if being happy now delays what I want to manifest from the Universe?

No, in fact, it will speed up manifesting your desires if you’re already in a positive state of mind now.  The Universe “hears” your happiness and works to bring you more of what you want.  Remember, it’s your vibration that changes what happens in these interactions with the Universe.

(4) Yes, but, when I’m unhappy, I’m not very successful at being happy!

I admit it takes practice and some discipline, it’s not that simple if you’ve run your life with the “I won’t be happy until…” philosophy.  You could change your thoughts or change your focus and you would instantly change how you feel.

Wouldn’t it be fun to learn how to be
happy now instead of waiting for
the world to change?

When I do this exercise of choosing to be genuinely happy or feeling good now instead of waiting for circumstances to change, there are so many benefits!

(1) My mood is instantly lifted.

(2) When I stop focusing on what I’m waiting for, I really do notice what makes me happy in my life, regardless of outside circumstances.

(3) I feel empowered because I’ve generated the feelings from inside myself.

(4) I raise my vibration right away, and it feels wonderful.

(5) It reminds me that what I want is on its way anyway, so why not be happy right now!

(6) It reduces my chronic impatience.

Yes, being happy now instead of waiting for what’s on your manifestation list to show up actually speeds up your manifestations.  Why?  Because you have raised your vibration and communicated to the Universe that you enjoy things that make you happy, and you’ll be delighted when those things on your list show up… and you’re willing to be happy anyway!

So how do we stop waiting to be happy? I recommend starting with the assumption that what you have been “asking for” is on its way, no questions asked.  If you start each day this way, it’s far easier to focus on what’s already making you happy.

Then, focus on what makes you happy in your life today, not what you would think would make you happy in the future.  One of my favorite Gratitude Lists that I write out is “Ten Things that Make Me Happy About My Life” (or “Ten Things that Make Me Feel Good.”) If writing down “ten things” that make you happy sounds like too much, start with five.  I really enjoy this list, and it improves my energy and my mood every time.

It’s that simple – assume you are going to get what you want, and focus on what you already have that makes you happy.  How could it possibly be this simple?  Try it!  Not only is it simple, it’s incredibly effective.

So why wait?  There are no good
reasons not to choose
to be happy now.

Be willing to shake up your old energy patterns, delete that old habit of focusing on what’s not working well, and stop “waiting to be happy until…” You will be delighted with the results.

Remember, the Law of Attraction sends you situations that have the same energy of the vibration you are putting out… so being happy ahead of time communicates to the Universe that you appreciate things that make you feel happy!
