Key #1 - Clarity
[00:00:00] The Three Keys to Success.
[00:00:03] Are you tired of feeling stuck going around and around in circles and not getting the results that you want?
[00:00:10] Maybe you want more financial freedom or better health, or improvements in your body, or improvements in the depth and the connections in your relationships.
[00:00:21] You may even be up in the middle of the night worried about your family, worried about your life, worried about your finances.
[00:00:29] And I'm sorry for this frustration and the stress and the burnout, but I'm glad you're watching. I am Carol Look, and I'm a psychotherapist, a founding EFT Master, a bestselling author, and an international speaker. And I have created these three videos for you to help you with the Three Keys to Success.
[00:00:50] And in this first key, I'm gonna talk about Clarity.
[00:00:53] But first, let's go back and talk a little bit more about the challenge. You want better results. And they may be in terms of financial freedom. It may be in terms of your body or your relationships, you want better results, but month after month and year after year, you keep going around in circles and you're not getting where you wanna go.
[00:01:16] I know how frustrating that can be. I too have been up in the middle of the night, worried about it, had those challenges, had those issues, but what I didn't realize was that I was chasing the wrong problem.
[00:01:28] It felt to me like the problem was not having enough money, but that wasn't the problem. The real problem is something deeper, and that's what I'm going to help you with in key number one, clarity.
[00:01:41] Getting to the real problem.
[00:01:43] What many of you don't know, and I certainly didn't know, is that your brain is actually blocking you from getting what you want because of fear. So our brains are wired for safety, not for success. So, you may be telling your friends and your family members and yourself that you want more success, again, in financial freedom or with your health and body or in your relationships, but something's actually blocking you and it's you.
[00:02:13] I didn't realize that. I didn't realize it was me because we all think it's something outside of ourselves. The economy, our spouse, our friends, the town we live in, the work we've chosen, that something's in our way that's outside of us.
[00:02:29] But the truth is it's inside of us. And that's really good news. Even if that sounds upsetting and a little harsh, if the challenge is coming from inside of us, we can change that.
[00:02:41] So let's talk about clarity. What you wanna do is get super clear about what the real issue is. So take the success that you want. Define it, name it. You can even write it down. Consider the success that you keep looking for in your results, and ask yourself this incredibly important question,
[00:03:06] What would be the downside of getting that success?
[00:03:11] Write it down. If you need to pause the video if you need to, what is the downside of getting that success? You keep talking about, keep looking for, keep going around and around in circles to find.
[00:03:25] The reason we need to ask this question is because if you're not where you want to be, then likely you've got a big fear that's in the way and your brain is saying, oh, no, no.
[00:03:37] No success for you because it perceives some danger or threat if you get the success.
[00:03:43] For instance, I've had many clients who have said, if I'm more successful than somebody might hurt me, does that resonate for you? Because if it does, that's gonna win over your desire for success. Other people have said, I don't wanna be the object of somebody else's jealousy, so.
[00:04:03] In a way, it feels better to keep a lid on yourself.
[00:04:08] So keep asking that question. What's the downside of my getting the success that I keep saying I want?
[00:04:15] See if you can come up with at least one or two answers to that, because these answers are key for what you're going to change and what you're gonna do differently in your life
[00:04:26] If you're afraid of being visible. And standing out than being more successful is not all it's cracked up to be for your brain. Your brain will interpret it as dangerous, unsafe, not good for you.
[00:04:43] Now, if any of you had trouble answering that question, let's go to the flip question.
[00:04:48] What might be the upside of staying stuck?
[00:04:52] And I know a lot of you have heard me ask these questions and webinars and in workshops, but ask it again.
[00:04:57] What could be the upside, maybe something positive that would come from staying stuck?
[00:05:07] Our brains protect us because of our wiring, so it's not your fault. Your brain is trying to say, don't worry, I'm not gonna make you stand out in front of a crowd and get hurt. The way you did last time, don't worry. I'm not gonna let you be in the path of someone else's jealousy or envy.
[00:05:25] And even though we say we want to be more successful financially or in our relationships or with our bodies, we end up losing that desire to the protection, the safety that our brain thinks it's giving us by keeping a lid on us. Hiding us staying stuck. Even though staying stuck sounds terrible.
[00:05:48] It actually is doing something for us or protecting us from being successful and being out there and being visible.
[00:05:56] So again, let's go to that question. Both questions. The downside of getting the success I want is, and fill in the blank, pause this video if you need to. What might be a downside?
[00:06:13] And then the flip question is, what might be the upside of remaining stuck? And I know many of you will say, don't be silly. I hate being stuck. You do. I do. I did. Right.
[00:06:27] But being stuck served a purpose. It protected me from being out there and having people take pot shots at me. People being envious and jealous and saying nasty things and really wanting what I have and not being very nice about it.
[00:06:43] Okay, so if you have an issue with visibility, standing out there right, feeling like that is risky. And that it's safer to stay under the radar. You will move heaven and earth not to be successful. Now, you may take seminars, you may be reading books, you may be buying marketing programs, all sorts of things to help you be successful, but they're not working because you're blocking yourself.
[00:07:10] It is so important to get to the real problem. You know what it's like the diet industry keeps giving us a new diet with new combinations of foods and new proportions, and some new fancy, newfangled way of eating. It's not the problem. Food is not the problem. The problem is why everybody overeats in the first place.
[00:07:35] All right, and you know what that's like financially. We think that we should work harder or raise our prices or work longer hours. And it doesn't work.
[00:07:44] It doesn't work because getting ahead or becoming financially independent, there's something about it that feels scary. So this is key number one, and it's critically important that you stop chasing the wrong problem.
[00:07:59] So, again, we always think, well, the real problem is that I don't have enough money. It's not the real problem.
[00:08:05] The real problem is that financial freedom in some way triggers your brain to say, not safe. I don't wanna be successful. Even though this big part of you is saying, of course I wanna be successful.
[00:08:18] I keep working towards that. Don't you know that?
[00:08:21] So once you identify the real problem, what you're really up against, then you can start working on clearing that knowing that instead of you being a failure, instead of you just trying and trying and racing the motor, but not getting anywhere, your brain is actually trying to do you a favor.
[00:08:41] It's protecting you. That's why we do all the self-sabotaging behaviors.
[00:08:47] So again, this is key number one, clarity.
[00:08:50] I want you to know what the real problem is, and for some of you, it'll feel pretty confronting. Like, oh, I don't wanna go there. I don't wanna know that. I'd rather blame the economy or blame my spouse or blame the culture or something.
[00:09:04] It's not outside of us.
[00:09:06] The challenge. That we can fix is inside of us.
[00:09:10] So key number one, clarity and the way to get clarity is to ask those two questions. What is the downside of getting the success that I keep saying I want? Or what is the upside to staying stuck? Great. I hope this was helpful.
